The Taunton Pistols formed in 2024 as the Taunton Muskets rebranded and expanded under the Taunton Baseball Club umbrella. Not the first time the club had expanded to two teams, with the Musketeers and Musketoons previously competing in the South West and Wales Baseball League. However compared to previous iterations, the Pistols quickly established themselves amongst the Wessex Division.
After the Muskets inaugural season in 2014 numbers swelled and the demand for a second team, focused more on development, saw the Musketoons, soon to become the Musketeers, compete in the 2015 season. The side battled and saw many players develop amongst its ranks, but league success was hard to come by, especially competing against established sides. A league restructuring did allow the Musketeers to briefly shine as they faced sides of a similar ability. Unfortunately the club was unable to sustain two teams due to player movement and thus the Musketeers were reintegrated into the Muskets.
With the Taunton Muskets reaching a decade as a club, the desire to establish a second team became a reality and the Taunton Pistols were formed in 2024. The first season in the Wessex division of the SWWBL was not an easy one for the new side, however they notched 6 wins in the debut season and ended the year fourth in the standings, one place behind the Muskets.
2025 saw the South West and Wales Baseball League welcome back some familiar teams, as well as some new faces on the diamond. The expansion gave the Pistols some new opposition in the Wessex division, however it did not necessarily make the challenge any easier. The Pistols improved their record on the season to 8-12, but again they finished in fourth spot in the division.
